Optimus Prime may be a 21st century Transformer, but the team at Encline Designs wanted to see what he would have turned into during the 1800′s and the most obvious answer was formed, a steam engine!
The pictures shown below showcase Optimus Prime in all of his transformation stages as a steam engine.
There were some jaws that had to be picked up off the floor this morning when Apple held its latest media event. Emceed as ever by Steve Jobs, the event was primarily about Apple updating its entire line of iPods, but it was a handful of other announcements that stole the show.
Here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know.
1) Ping. Perhaps the biggest news of the entire press conference: Apple has entered the Social Media War with its very own social network. But instead of making it a network about anything and everything, Apple has shrewdly zeroed in on one aspect of its business that it would be most beneficial to add social features to: music on iTunes.
Ping works much like Facebook, but it’s all about music, allowing fans, musicians, and friends to be easily linked together, so you can see what your friends are buying, thinking, what concerts they’re going to, and more. It’s pretty nifty, but it should be interesting to see if users who are used to doing their social networking on the web will be willing to give that up; Ping works only inside iTunes, or your iPhone or iPod. Ping comes with iTunes 10.0, a brand new version of iTunes, which should
At today’s Apple keynote event, Epic Games showed up to tease a new game they’re working on called Project Sword. Showing off some of the 3D gameplay the game will make possible, using Epic’s Unreal Engine (the same game engine used for Gears of War, Mass Effect, and more), they’ve made a free app available to download from iTunes. It’s called “Epic Citadel,” and it’s basically a FPS-style 3D castle/village environment for you to wander around in and take a look at what the Unreal engine can do on iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
I just downloaded the iPad version and have to say, I’m impressed. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the eye candy is definitely something to behold. Check out the handful of screenshots I just took (below), and then go to iTunes to download the app for yourself. Epic is making its Apple development tools available to other game makers, which opens the door to a whole new era of gaming on Apple’s portable devices.
Sure Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers may have the dark side to aid them in their battles, but there’s nothing like staying nice and limber as well, that’s where a daily routine of Tai Chi comes into play.
Notice the lazy Stormtroopers in the background who are doing little more than standing around.
Watch as Darth Vader does his Lift Knee Thrust Upward pose and his Turn Body, Thrust Downward Pose among 40 other moves in the style of Star Wars.
Here’s the video:
It’s all a bit silly, but check out the definition for Tai and it’s use of “the force” as told from the directors point of view:
With the fashion of relaunch that has swamped the market recently, such as Buck Rogers, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, the Red Circle characters, the Green Hornet and even a small blast from the Milestone imprint; is there really room for another one?
Absolutely yes, especially if it receives the same tender loving care that the aforementioned titles have done.
Now, while I say Atlas, I do not mean the Atlas comics from that evolved into Marvel, of which there has been more than a few reprints recently. No, I mean the cast of characters that never really got a chance to shine, those of Atlas Seaboard comics.
For an imprint that only lasted for a year, (June 1974 to June 1975), it had a prolific output, and seemed omnipresent as I launched on my collecting career numerous years later. Every car boot sale or jumble sale I visited, I seemed to find yet another Atlas issue, nearly always a new title, totally unrelated to any of the others.
By all accounts, Atlas owed it’s short lifespan to a combination of bad decisions, yet it’s stock of characters seem to me to have a lot of potential. If nothing else, surely Image could give them a home?
Apparently, Eclipse Comics had the same idea. In 1994, the characters had lapsed into the public domain (that was quick!), and Beau Smith stated in Comics Bulletin:
Dean wanted to pay the Goodman’s a price he thought the stuff was worth, but the Goodmans wanted much, much more. Dean declined. He also told them that he found out t
Mark your calendars! From September 3 to 6, the annual Dragon*Con is going to be held in Georgia. My love for dragons is not a secret, though this convention is not really just about those magnificent creatures. What started out as a project of a local science fiction group and gaming group (Dragon Alliance of Gamers and Role-Players) has now become one of the largest multigenre conventions in North America. The name Dragon comes from the founder’s (Ed Kramer) Dragon Computer.
This year marks the 24th annual Dragon*Con – it was founded in 1987 – and it will be held in four Atlanta hotels: Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Atlanta Hilton and Towers, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, Westin Peachtree Plaza. The four-day event is packed with all sorts of activities – more than enough to satisfy your geeky appetite. From music to science fiction to fantasy to seminars to parades – participants will get to experience these in Dragon*Con.
Some of the most popular events in Dragon*Con are:
Robot BattlesTM, which is actually the second oldest robotic combat competition in the world. It’s a no-frills affair compared to other similar events, but the competition draws a lot of attention.
The Annual Dragon*Con Parade is going to be held on the 4th of September at 10 am in Downtown Atlanta. Anyone can watch, but you have to be a member to march in the parade (costumed, of course).
When comics convert from print to the screen – be it silver screen, little screen, or computer screen – the results are often disastrous. We’ve become so accustomed to this fact that as comic book lovers, we follow the news of every comic adaptation’s progress as if it was life or death. Universally.
We obsess over every little detail, but in sheer acceptance of our fate, preordained by movie & TV studios, we rarely ask the big question: should a comic be adapted? Is one comic more worthy than another? Is one comic so strong that it’ll survive any and all mishandling it’ll inevitably receive once it hits the studio’s hands? Or is it a comic that should never, ever make the transition?
Let’s examine some comics that haven’t deserved their 15 minutes of Hollywood fame, and a few comics that should be given a chance to demonstrate their full glory on the silver screen.
Kick-Ass: Kick-Ass. What can I say? Mediocre comic, mediocre film. Soon to be a mediocre sequel! Taking up valuable box office space and studio dollars and cents while other movies that deserve to be made languish in the wings. Movies like…
Deadpool: As one of Marvel’s most unforgettable characters, Deadpool has been crying out for a good movie of his own. And fans are crying out alongside him. This is a movie that would be well watched regardless of whether it was made wonderfully or made like crap. Deadpool’s story is an endless supply of amusing source material for a first rate movie plot. And
I love me some Lost. You might even say I’m a Lost fanatic. But this is way too much, even for me.
The Prince Charles Cinema in London is planning a Lost marathon starting September 13th, wherein they’ll show all 121 episodes of the show back-to-back on the big screen. Without those pesky commercials, that adds up to 80 straight hours of Lost (though breaks are planned and will be required of all attendees), or four days. The theatre is even going to have paramedics on hand for anyone who gets too tired (or whose brain melts from non-stop pondering of Mystery Island).
Prince Charles Cinema is timing this event to happen at the same time as the release of Season 6 on DVD in England (American viewers can already purchase the set). Admission is free for the first 280 fans to arrive, and sleeping bags, pillows, snacks, and costumes are “recommended.” If you require a button to push every 108 minutes, they will not be provided.
Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse reacted to this insane fan event by saying that, “we applaud you, we admire you and we thank you for your fandom.” They also added that they “take no legal re
Tired from the plethora of fruit flavored lip balms? Now you can buy food flavored ones with Bacon flavor being the most notorious one to me. Other choices are pickle, corndog, nacho and wasabi. I really wonder how it would taste to wear those lip balms, like just having eaten? Or would it make you hungry?
Personally I don’t like flavored lip balms, with one exception, coconut flavored. It always reminds me of being on the beach, especially nice when it’s in the middle of winter. Otherwise I’m plain boring with lip balms using a plain non flavored one, so this Bacon Balm and the other food flavored ones look very daring to me.
I can see food flavored balm being an issue, especially if you are going to eat, unless you combine your food with the lip balms flavor. Easting sushi? Apply Wasabi lip balm. Having a taco? Apply Nacho lip balm. You get the gist. At least with the fruity flavored ones it is like dessert applying it after eating.
Any bacon fan should get the bacon flavored lip balm, myself included. Bacon is not the healthiest food and if this lip balm comes close in tasting like real bacon it can serve as a hold over for the days you don’t eat bacon. As long as it doesn’t make you want to eat more.
If your are a lip balm user would you buy food flavored ones?
